Station Casinos to celebrate "Smart Start" school partnership

Station Casinos to celebrate its signature “Smart Start” school partnership with CCSD Superintendent and school principals
Unbeknownst to them, 10 at-risk elementary schools to share $50,000 donation; gifts for all teachers

Station Casinos’ executives will join the CCSD Superintendent, Pat Skorkowsky, and principals representing the 10 Smart Start elementary schools at a special breakfast reception to celebrate the 13-year partnership. Since Smart Start’s inception in 2000, Station Casinos has contributed $2.5 million to dozens of high-need elementary schools and provided needed resources and volunteer support to improve education in the classrooms. Each of the 10 school principals will be presented with a $5,000 donation to support the student programs as well as an additional surprise to take back to every staff person at their school to recognize their staff for all they do for the students.

Friday, Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky will only be available from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m.

Green Valley Ranch Resort, La Sirena ballroom 2300 Paseo Verde Pkwy., Henderson, Nev.

As part of Smart Start, each Station Casinos’ property is paired with an at-risk elementary school where team members volunteer hundreds of hours each year for back-to-school supply drives, serve as homework helpers, provide food for teacher appreciation events, host etiquette luncheons to teach kids about manners and provide prizes to reward students for academic success, to name a few of the efforts. Just this past month, Station Casinos held a school supply drive at each property to benefit their designated schools. Among some of the items donated to the schools this school year, team members supplied:

- Nearly 1,500 backpacks
- Nearly 2,500 boxes of crayons
- More than 2,500 erasers
- More than 4,000 glue sticks
- Nearly 12,000 pencils
As well as thousands of room supplies, such as hand sanitizer, paper towels, tissue and more.

Smart Start funds are administered through the Clark County Public Education Foundation. Schools are required to utilize the funds to help meet the goals they set forth in their individual School Improvement Plan that is required annually by the school district.
