LAS VEGAS, NV (April 10, 2014) — Every 15 seconds in America, a woman is battered by her partner and while it’s completely inhumane treatment, there’s thankfully refuge for women and children to flee to safety at The Shade Tree shelter in Southern Nevada.  To help care for the residents of The Shade Tree, Station Casinos’ executives donated $100,000 last night to Southern Nevada’s only 24-hour accessible emergency shelter for women and children in crisis. The donation will provide for 6,000 nights of safe shelter to women in crisis and will be part of a matching gift challenge where all businesses and individuals are encouraged to help double the donation to $200,000.

With 364 permanent beds, The Shade Tree provides over 100,000 nights of shelter each year and 100% of its services are provided completely free of charge, regardless of the length of stay. The Shade Tree facility offers residential areas with sleeping rooms, libraries, training rooms, children's playrooms, three meals a day and laundry services. Additionally, it offers programs and services for women and children including life skills, workforce readiness, health services coordination and housing assistance as well as is the first shelter in the Country to provide an onsite full-service pet shelter with Noah’s Animal House.

Now through June 30, any donation made to The Shade Tree shelter will be matched by Station Casinos up to $100,000. Donations can be made online at or by calling Erica Thompson in the Development Department at (702) 385-0072 at extension 107.

“We have witnessed incredible stories of resilience over the years by so many victims of domestic violence at The Shade Tree and we are encouraged every day when we see how our donations have been used to help women regain their independence and care for their family as they begin to rebuild their lives away from their abuser,” said Steve Cavallaro, president of Station Casinos.  “We hope others in the community will join us to double our donation from $100,000 to $200,000” Cavallaro said.

“We are incredibly thankful to have such motivated and compassionate partners as Station Casinos,” said Marlene Richter, Shade Trees Executive Director.  “It is amazing to see a company come together to devote their resources to improve the lives of struggling women and children we serve. We couldn’t do it without the support of companies like Station Casinos and are grateful for their generosity and kindness.”
